Urban [Home]Scape:

Weaving familiarity into the urban fabric

This project seeks to redefine the urban landscape by introducing the comforting embrace of home into the heart of the city. In the bustling metropolis, where unfamiliarity often defines the experience of newcomers, “Urban [Home]scape” is a transformative initiative aimed at weaving elements of home into the urban fabric.

At its core, this project is a reflection of the belief that the concept of “home” transcends the confines of a residential space and can be integrated into the very essence of city life. It’s an exploration of how the memories, personal connections, and comforts of home can find a place within the dynamic, ever- changing urban environment. The project looks like the home in which I grew up and takes the elements that made that feel like home. By bringing these elements into the city, I aim to foster a profound sense of familiarity and belonging for individuals.

“Urban [Home]scape” is an attempt to answer the call for urban environments that reflect the rich tapestry of human experience. It is a celebration of personal identity within the communal space, an acknowledgment of cultural diversity, and a bridge between the known and the unknown.

The site is located in a less favourable part of town and can be an intimidating area for anyone that is not familiar with the city. The student accommodation located on 57 Bok Street offers an exciting laboratory for me to test on. The project aspires to create an urban fabric where residents both newcomers and long-time city dwellers, can find a sense of home amidst the bustling streets, nurturing a more connected and harmonious cityscape.
