{"id":105,"date":"2023-11-20T15:12:53","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T13:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsa.ac.za\/summer-show\/?p=105"},"modified":"2023-11-22T22:59:40","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T20:59:40","slug":"sipho-mahlangu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsa.ac.za\/summer-show\/blog\/2023\/11\/20\/sipho-mahlangu\/","title":{"rendered":"Sipho Mahlangu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"><strong>Urban Intensification: <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" style=\"margin-top:0;font-style:normal;font-weight:300\">Learning from corner Bree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I examined two courtyard typologies, one from my home in Mpumalanga at Buhlebesizwe, kwaLamula and the other courtyard within the inner city of Johannesburg at Corner Bree.&nbsp; Although the corner is not a courtyard, I termed it a courtyard because it is a public space surrounded by buildings and contains multiple activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My interest in Corner Bree was prompted by its multiple activities at various times of the day. The small corner accommodates socioeconomic, religious, cultural, and political activities. Through my site documentation, I sketched the material and immaterial architectures. Numerous multiscalar activities and architectures forge the intensity at the corner as part of the taxi rank, taxi drop-off, and shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My final proposition is a toolkit that could be used to intensify any part of the city that lacks activity.
