{"id":97,"date":"2023-11-20T15:11:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T13:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsa.ac.za\/summer-show\/?p=97"},"modified":"2023-11-22T23:04:31","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T21:04:31","slug":"peter-rademeyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsa.ac.za\/summer-show\/blog\/2023\/11\/20\/peter-rademeyer\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Rademeyer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>The Anti-Park<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My site is Joubert Park and the surrounding urban fabric in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, where I identified complex economic and social systems and how the over-used park acts as a major socio-economic hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My project challenges the colonial recreational vision implicit in the park\u2019s lingering design. Instead of completely stripping out the symmetrical paths and the Johannesburg Art Gallery, I developed these as frameworks for new programmatic inhabitation as part of more appropriate contemporary systems.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A city should aim for a 1m2 to 10 people park space density ratio. Hillbrow has a population of almost 75,000 people and has an area of only 1,08km2. Evidently, the park is not enough to serve the surrounding population. This demonstrates a clear need for the park\u2019s expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My project details five systems that would dictate different programmatic and material elements in the new anti-park.
