The established canon of architectural education has been predominantly produced and, by implication, prescribed by countries within the Northern hemisphere.  Thereafter, systems of validation and accreditation claiming to uphold professional standards have transposed these curricula into schools located within the Global South, with scant regard for the socio-economic or environmental context, nor for the regionally created and culturally calibrated pedagogical traditions.  Drawing from materials and case studies within her most recent edited book, The Routledge Companion to Architectural Pedagogies of the Global South, Dr Harriss’ talks will expose and antagonise the linguistic, epistemological, and disciplinary conceits that, under imperialist imperatives, ensure that these pedagogies often remain maligned or marginalised.
