This Short Learning Programme offers an exceptional opportunity for professionals and anyone passionate about heritage in the built environment. It caters to a diverse range of fields, including but not limited to architecture, town planning, engineering, building management, construction management, etc.

This intensive five-day Short Learning Programme equips built environment practitioners with the legislative, technical, and critical skills required to undertake heritage-related projects in South Africa. Grounded in the National Heritage Resources Act (NHRA) Act 25 of 1999, the course focuses on heritage compliance processes, heritage impact assessments, adaptive reuse, and permit applications for structures older than sixty years. The programme combines practical training with critical perspectives on heritage, memory, spatial justice, and post-apartheid urban transformation. Through case studies, workshops, and simulated applications, participants develop the competencies needed to navigate heritage regulations while critically engaging heritage as a living and contested urban condition.

Participants who successfully complete all assignments and maintain a minimum attendance of 80% will be awarded a prestigious Competency Certificate. For those who may not complete every assignment but still demonstrate commitment with at least 80% attendance, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued. This recognition highlights your dedication and participation!
