Practice Lecture: Building Drawings by Craig McClenaghan Architecture

Craig McClenaghan is a Johannesburg-based architect, exhibition designer, artist and teacher, with a particular interest in creative research. After graduating from UCT in 2002, he worked for Mashabane Rose Associates for thirteen years before formally establishing Craig McClenaghan Architecture (CMA) in 2016 – an exploratory, award-winning, multi-disciplinary design studio, that engages collaboratively with researchers, writers, artists, curators, educators and students.  

Heritage, landscape and archaeology are recurring themes in the architectural work of the practice, the design research of which is explored through alternate methods of thinking, drawing, making and representing. This ethos extends and expands into the work of his teaching practice, in the GSA studio Unit 21 ‘Phantom Cartography’ which Craig co-leads with Azraa Gabru

CMA has received several regional and national awards, and the paper installation ‘Letters from the Landscape’ was featured at the 18th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, The Laboratory of the Future, in the Curator’s Special Projects, Mnemonic, curated by Lesley Lokko.

All lectures are free and open to the public.
All lectures earn Cat 1, 0, 3 CPD credits.
