After forging a friendship as architecture students at Wits University in the early 1990s and graduating a few years later, Althea and Tanzeem went on to form LEMONpebble Design in 2006. From the outset, their work took a fluid collaborative approach that incorporated personal histories and identities.
LEMONpebble’s work seeks to create inspiring spaces grounded in efficiency, is considerate of its past, and looks toward a re-imagined future. LEMONpebble works across scales, from macro urban design to the design of public and social infrastructures with transformative agendas.
Both Althea and Tanzeem are involved in academia through teaching and examining, which informs their practice. This occurs at the confluence of critical spatial thinking in contested landscapes, erased identities, and spatial justice, which are intrinsic components of their spatial practice.
LEMONpebble architects have received numerous prestigious industry awards, have spoken at local and international platforms, and recently participated in the 18th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.
