The series explores how architects started off, landed their first appointments, perform projects and market and organise their practices. In addition, the practitioners will speculate on where the profession of architecture is headed. The series is aimed at both architectural practitioners and students.

Mokena’s areas of expertise include: strategy, infrastructure, urban development, climate smart design, land use planning, rural development, communications, transport and architecture.
Mokena has completed various executive leadership and business courses at prestigious institutions, including the Harvard Kennedy School and Oxford University. He holds various leadership fellowships including the Desmond Tutu Fellowship (2014), an Aliko Dangote Fellow (2014) and is a member of the African Leadership Network. He is also a 2020 Africa Leadership Aspen Fellow.
His other passions lie in the intersection between design and sustainable development, just ecology, inclusive economies and the role that infrastructure and human centered design strategy plays in that. He has designed and overseen creative districts, and innovation hub strategy. He offers insights on topics including thought-leadership on African cities, design, social and spatial practices, and demographic change.
