Revitalizing the City: Creating a Vibrant Urban Environment through Facade Design in an Existing Rosebank Building

The design response to the theme of the unit is Revitalizing the City: Creating a Vibrant Urban Environment through Facade Design in an Existing Rosebank Building. The project focuses on using architectural elements such as space, volume and movement to bring back the life and architecture that promotes engagement between the users inside the building and the larger urban context. The unit allows for experimentation in the Lab and the Field to test these ideas through making models, using repetition to develop these ideas and through tectonics.

The project focuses on the Psychology of spaces: How architectural design influences human behaviour and emotions by redesigning the internal spaces and facade of an existing building and preserving the existing structure to reduce the buildings carbon footprint. The premise of the design project is creating an interesting and engaging relationship between the users of the building and the pedestrians who walk around the city. The project explores themes such as tensegrity and permeability – using a programme that has multiple movements of the body that will interact with the facade of the building to create a scenography, bringing life to the city’s urban environment and atmosphere.
