Fostering a Connection Between Humans and Nature Through Architecture to Support the Human Nervous System

This thesis explores how architecture can support the human nervous system by abstracting landscape elements within an office building. I am integrating insights from psychology and neuroscience to design environments that mimic and extract from natural elements and promote mental and emotional well-being. My work involves sketching, creating prototypes, and analyzing my experiences in a nature reserve to understand what aspects of nature contribute to a calming and refreshing atmosphere. The project works with an existing office building at 160 Jan Smuts Avenue in Rosebank. This research aims to transform the traditional office into a new workspace that nurtures and revitalizes its occupants.
